We are a 100% foster-based rescue — which means no boarding facility, no backup system, and no rescue without fosters. In our fast-paced rescue, fosters are not placeholders; they are essential, trusted partners. We’re looking for fosters who are communicative, attentive, and actively involved in guiding their foster pug from intake to adoption.
Fostering isn’t “helping when it’s convenient.” It’s giving a pug safety, healing, and dignity when they have nowhere else to go. Many of the dogs we take in would not survive without a foster home.
If you’ve ever said “I wish I could do more” — this is it.

Most of our foster pugs arrive as strays, owner surrenders, or from shelters with little to no known history.
Most are not potty trained, not kennel trained, and unfamiliar with basic routines.
Fosters must be flexible, patient, and ready to problem-solve, providing consistent structure while the dog decompresses.
Realistic expectations and adaptability are required.

As a foster, you are responsible for daily care—feeding, enrichment, and attention.
You will complete intake assessments to help us understand each dog’s personality and needs.
You must attend all vet appointments and participate in adoption events and meet-and-greets to help your foster find a permanent home.
Consistent communication with the rescue is required.

When you foster with APPR, you’re never on your own. We provide all supplies, including a kennel, harness and leash, ID tag, and food.
All medical expenses—routine or emergency—are fully covered.
You’ll have our support and guidance throughout, so you can focus on giving your foster dog love, stability, and care while we help them find a permanent home.
Stability and the dog's best interest are our top priorities.

Clear communication is required for a successful foster experience.
All fosters must use our Slack channel and keep notifications on during vet appointments, adoption events, and meet-and-greets to receive timely updates and guidance.
Staying engaged ensures your foster dog gets the care and support they need.

Arizona Pug Party and Rescue is different because our fosters are actively involved in the adopter selection process and are always welcome to adopt their foster dogs if it’s the right fit.
We also keep adoption requirements flexible, avoiding the heavy restrictions and demands that many rescues traditionally impose, so dogs can find loving homes faster.

Start by completing a Foster Application, Foster Agreement, and the free Maddie’s University Shelter and Rescue Training – Canine course.
You’ll then have a call with a Board member and a home visit to receive supplies.
Once approved, you’ll be matched with a pug and can start making a difference!

What training is required to foster or volunteer?
To get started, you’ll first complete the Foster Agreement, then finish the Shelter and Rescue Training – Canine course through Maddie’s University. Next, we’ll schedule an onboarding call to review your role and answer any questions. Once that’s done, you’ll join our Slack channel and be ready to start fostering and helping pugs in need!
How long do dogs stay in foster care?
Every dog is different. Some stay weeks, others longer—we work with your availability. On average, our dogs get adopted within 1 month.
Who pays for medical care?
Arizona Pug Party covers approved veterinary care.
What does a home check entail?
A home check is a quick visit to ensure your environment is safe and suitable for a foster pug. We’ll look at where your foster will sleep, eat, and play, and check that your home is secure and free from hazards. This helps us make sure every dog is comfortable and protected while in your care. Don’t worry—it’s a supportive process, not an inspection!
What if it’s not a good fit?
We’ll work with you to find a better placement—your honesty matters.
Can I foster if I work full-time?
Yes! Many of our fosters work full-time.
What if I need to travel?
Whenever you’re out of town, a fellow approved foster will lovingly care for your foster, keeping them safe and happy until you return.
Why does Arizona Pug Party accept owner-surrendered dogs?
As a nonprofit, our goal is to help reduce the overpopulation and overcrowding of animals in local shelters while also preventing more dogs from becoming strays. By taking in owner-surrendered pugs, we provide a safe, loving environment where they can recover, thrive, and eventually find their forever homes. This helps support both the dogs and the community while giving every pug the best chance at a happy life.
